       Spring has finally arrived! The Rhubarb plants are beginning to pop their heads above ground to rejoice in the sunny days and milder weather. Soon we will be digging horseradish to grind into that pungent tangy hamburger relish everyone enjoys. And our minds and hands turn to our flowerbeds and gardens. Wouldn’t you like to own a piece of original fine art? Want to adorn your gardens or accent your home with handcrafted American made artwork? Looking for that unique piece that won’t be found in your neighbors’ garden or home?

         The Deming Art Studio offers you a unique selection of original hand crafted fine art for your garden and home. At their studio nestled in the Northeastern Michigan farm country, artists Linda & David Deming bring to life unique original fine art creations. Among this husband & wife artistic team’s creations are stained glass & metal sculptures, cement sculptures, cement furniture and garden art. The spring open house begins our season of unveiling to the public our new creations. During the Deming Art Studio Spring Open House you will experience unique original fine art. There will be light refreshments. Also, each year our guests to the spring open house have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win an original piece of Deming Artwork. See you there on May 10th, 2008 from 9am to 6pm at the Deming Art Studio, 5380 Stanton Lake Road, located in Lum, Michigan.

If you sew, quilt, are an artist or just love creativity, I highly recommend “Legends; 9 Quilts Inspired by Earth, Sea & Sky” by Laurel Burch. I neither sew nor am I a quilter but, I truly enjoyed this book.  The designs of the quilts are filled with imaginary worlds, colorful birds, flying fish and mermaids.  Laurel Burch’s bright fabric designs are beautiful and creative.  The designs, colors, intricate applique work  and nature’s energy in each piece took my breath away. Take a look at this book even if it is just to be inspired by the artist’s vision of nature.

For all you creative people and artists looking for a good book to read I highly recommend “Living The Creative Life-Ideas and Inspiration from Working Artists” by Rice Freeman Zachery (ISBN-13-978-58180-994-7) . The book provides inspirations for all levels of artists from full-time working artists to those considering becoming a full-time artist. I enjoyed the book because I got a glimpse into other artists lives and how they create . The book is filled with pictures of the commenting artists’ works and tips from the artists. I saw how they made the transition from day job to full-time artist. Through their creative processes, journals, muses and creative blocks, I realized that I myself as an artist was not much different from other artists. The book is filled with creative  “Try This” assignments to jumpstart your creativity. Included in the book are insights from by artists Claudine Hellmuth, Michael DeMeng, Violette of the purple Magic Cottage, Susan Shie and more. They answer the questions you are longing to ask artists about their creativity, their lives and their creative processes. They  help you find the answers to the artistic questions you have been asking yourself. The images of the artists work in this book are awesome!
